About the movie
---------------
Earlier this year, in March, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the US screened a documentary series called "The New Americans". This series follows four years in the lives of a diverse group of contemporary immigrants and refugees from before they leave their homelands through their first tumultuous years in America. Indu Krishnan, an Indian filmmaker, followed the life of Anjan Bacchu, a computer programmer, who was planning to apply for a job in the U.S.

Indu Krishnan is interested in following the impact of IT in Bangalore through the medium of film. She will be present at Fireflies on the 25th. Note that the stories of the different immigrants are intertwined in the PBS series, but, on the 25th, Indu will show only the portions of the series that pertain to the Indian IT worker.

Putting ideas on the table
--------------------------
In the first meeting, the following were some of the directions thrown up for future activities of this group.
- collecting personal stories about IT impacts on society
- collecting "relevant" technical projects
- collecting discussion topics for meetings
- collecting projects for case studies
It would be helpful going forward to start enumerating these collections.

In addition, other ideas were also brought up:
- meet/listen to people affected by IT
- meet/listen to those who benefit from IT-for-development projects
- publishing a newsletter and disseminating it
- writing/publishing articles in newspapers, etc.
- input into IT education at local universities
- understanding government policies and policy advocacy

Please send mails to both Subbu and Dinesh about other ideas (to whatever detail you wish) you might want considered by this group. You are welcome to suggest ideas even if you cannot take it forward yourself or be present at the meeting. We will compile all the ideas and send them out before the 25th.

Planning future course of action
--------------------------------
It would be good to spend some time discussing some names for this group/space/collective/forum :-) (to use all the terms that have been used to describe this effort).

Let us spend the rest of the time discussing ways in which some of us (and/or possibly others) could take forward the ideas put on the table. Hopefully, by the end of the meeting, we can come up with some activities that will be taken forward. We should also decide where we will meet next, and what the agenda will be.
