Title IT use in teaching and IT projects at educational institutions

Agenda
This is the third meeting of the IT discussion group. This time, there has been interest expressed to focus on the schools/college/university setup:
(a) what kind of s/w is being used by students and faculty at schools,
colleges and universities, as teaching aids, and in projects.

(b) the focus of student IT projects being taken up at colleges/universities.
(c) how student interest can be leveraged to take up projects that are
relevant to communities neglected or strapped for resources.
(ex: open source, NGO IT needs, Indian language computing, etc.)

Planned future meetings

28th Aug: Talk and discussion about IT and land-related issues in and
around Bangalore (acquisition, development, displacement ..)
at National Institute of Advanced Studies
11th Sep: Talk and discussion around the Bhoomi project (land records
computerization programme)

About this group
----------------
This is a space:
  • that fosters reflection on the impacts of IT on society at various scales,
  • where ongoing IT projects/research can be critically appraised in terms of their relevance to different communities,
  • where relevant social and technical projects can be initiated.
The above is only an indicator of inputs from those who have participated so far. The space is open to further inputs from others.
