Minutes Objectives
----------
One of the main objectives of this meeting was to discuss IT projects in engineering colleges to get a sense of the potential for linking engineering student final projects
1) with computing needs in the non-profit sector,
2) with 'meaningful' needs in general (yes, we did discuss the fact that
'meaningful' could mean different things to different people), and
3) with open-source initiatives.
Specifically, we interacted with UVCE faculty and students on the above issues.

Summary of the main threads in the discussion
---------------------------------------------
1 - student projects.
2 - A list of projects - connecting the user/ demand with students
3 - brainstorming about how to introduce Science and Technology Studies (STS) into Universities - to enable an understanding of technology within the socio-political context.
4 - a thread that we touched upon but did not really tackle fully - IT in primary schools.

Some proposed actions going ahead
---------------------------------
1 - getting listing of student projects (completed last year, or those being taken up this year) from universities
2 - setting up a forum/database/listing of ideas for student projects
3 - brainstorming/working on setting up a non-institutional space for science and technology studies to foster a more critical understanding of technology than what is obtained at engineering schools. possibly start with lecture series.
4 - regarding IT use in primary schools, there were some suggestions of collecting experiences/case-studies of their deployment, use, and impacts.
5 - abhas said he can help set up mailing lists (for internal discussion) and forums/databases for student projects.
